A special workshop in partnership with Somerset House Studios. Public transport costs for Hundred Club members are available if needed, please email nb@taco.org.uk

Beuys’ Acorns: A Circle of Oaks Comes to Thamesmead

fri 29 aug / 11-2
taco! print studio, 30 poplar place, se28 8ba

Free but please book here.
Please bring a packed lunch, light refreshments provided. The session includes a gentle walk to Crossways Park, around 20 minutes total duration. For more info on the route and access info, please email nb@taco.org.uk.

5-12 year olds and their families are invited to join artist Heather Ackroyd of artistic duo Ackroyd & Harvey to learn more about a circle of seven oak trees that will be planted this autumn at Crossway Park. To welcome the trees into their new home, The Hundred Club are invited for a creative workshop printing with leaves and woodblocks, and thinking about issues around bio-diversity, trees, and being together.

***
This planting is part of a national art project started in 2007 and inspired by '7000 Oaks' by the German artist and environmental activist Joseph Beuys (pronounced “boys”). A total of 17 Beuys’ Acorns oak circles will be planted in public parks and spaces from 2025-2029, grown from acorns collected by the artists from Beuys' trees in Kassel, Germany. The circle at Crossway Park is in partnership with the Cultural Strategy team at Thamesmead | Peabody and Landscape at Peabody.

Ackroyd & Harvey have been investigating Nature-based processes of growth and decay for over three decades, addressing forces of anthropogenic climate change and bio-diversity loss that are rapidly reshaping and rewriting Earth’s systems. Their time-based artworks intersect art, activism, architecture, biology, ecology and history, evolving through extended research in response to people and place, interfacing their profound interest in local ecologies and global planetary concerns.

hundred club day rave

taco!, cygnet square, Se2 9FA

The Hundred Club Day Rave is an invitation for families to make their own daytime rave. Join Ruth Beale, and other Hundred Club artists to create our set and lighting, posters and wearable sculptures, experimental sounds and playlists. What spaces do you need to express yourself? What is the value of space to listen to music, dance and be free?

We’ll talk about the history of rave as a youth movement that promoted shared experience and collective values. What does a day rave designed by 5-12 year olds look and sound like? Let's find out!

Book here.
More info to follow.
A family club, we ask grown ups to stay and get involved!
