︎LEFTOVERS ︎ A GROUP FOR READING OTHERWISE ︎

Leftovers - a group for reading Otherwise

Leftovers - a group for reading otherwise is an informal reading and discussion group. The group meets monthly, providing a supportive, peer-led space for close and speculative readings of texts from cultural and critical theory, philosophy, literature, poetry, and popular media.

Texts are selected by an invited lead reader. Once invited, the lead reader proposes a text for a close reading over a period of months, and facilitates and guides the group discussion.

Lead Readers for 2026 include

  • The Alternative School of Economics, reading texts about co-operativism, from January 2026 - April 2026. (please see the event page for details).

  • Holly Graham , reading texts about anti racist practices, memoarialisation, and care, from May - September 2026.

  • Nick Smith , reading texts about the class and the future city, from September 2026 - January 2027.

Text’s respond to TACO! context, public programming & artist research, and to the ideas that arise through ongoing conversations within the Leftovers community.  An extended, rigorous reading of a text is intended. Reading sessions allow the group to share opinions, thoughts and reflections arising from texts.

Texts maybe sourced from the TACO! Artist Research Library, or be contributed to it.

Members are encouraged to bring ancillary texts as a response to a core text, and share this with others. These ancillary texts, any written materials, physical ephemera and notes, as well as the core texts, are the group's leftovers. The group is generous and generative: that which is left over is available for others to use and share.

Leftover reading group sessions are free to attend, open to all, and meets in person at TACO!, where food and drink is provided as part of the sharing.

Texts are shared as PDFs on the TACO! website and via email, 2-3 weeks in advance of group discussions. The reading list of all texts shared and brought to the group is added to on an ongoing basis, and is made available for wider use here and by TACO!

TACO! encourages a range of diverse voices to join the group, to participate in generous and respectful discussion. To take part in the group and receive reading texts and discussion dates, or to find out more information, please email info@taco.org.uk
