OPEN CITY FESTIVAL
WALKING TOUR OF THAMESMEAD
WITH architects Manalo & White, photographer David Grandorge and artist Adam Shield

21 Sept
14:00-15:30

Free, booking essential (bookings open 20 August)

As part of the London-wide Open House Festival, join us for a walking tour of ‘Area 1’ on the SouthThamesmead Estate. This part of Thamesmead was one of the first to be built and still retains the unique architecture and character that defines the area and its enduring cultural significance.

The walking tour will take in many of the bespoke and personal interventions in the original concrete structures made by residents. This interventions inspired the design of TACO!’s space and the use of bricks as its primary material.

The tour is led by architects Manalo & White, photographer David Grandorge, and will include a conversation with artist Adam Shield, whose solo show opens at TACO! in October.

Adam Shield’s latest work uses semi-fictional narratives, sound and collaged imagery to explore the area around the Thames, from Woolwich to Thamemsead. Adam will share his artistic practice, and the process of installing his forthcoming exhibition in the gallery at TACO!
