JENNY PENGILLY ︎ STATIC STUDIOS ︎

Static Studios is a co-authored art and publishing project by artist Jenny Pengilly, in collaboration with early years children and their families in Abbey Wood and Thamesmead.

The project explores how DIY sound making can help children create their own cultural output. Collaborative making explores communication, family rituals and routines, security and community in the context of access to services, and the importance of resources, such as the children’s centres, that provide key connection to many families.

Jenny is currently developing an experimental studio album and permanent artwork with early years children, and a performance lecture about children and sound.

In 2023, Jenny was the recipient of the CYP Publishing Residency, a partnership between TACO! and Better Children’s Centres Abbey Wood and Thamesmead, supported by Bow Arts. Over 6 months, 294 2-4 year olds collaborated on a research project exploring how sound and making can further communication between staff and families. Jenny’s monthly show Experimental Music and Children on TACO!’s community radio station rtm.fm explores music and audio cultures made by and for children.

As lead artist in 2025 for BANG SPLAT WHOOSH, an artist residency programme in early years Children Centres, Jenny will continue to explore experimental sound, radio broadcast, field recording, foley, role-play and publishing, as well as facilitating Little Voices sessions, - a board of early years children that will meet three times a year, to formally influence the programme and the project’s public outputs.
