Carr’s art is grounded within the practice of field recording, the sonic exploration of the sometimes hidden sounds of an environment. Using microphones Carr finds sounds within a body of water, the internal vibrations of a building, or the rumbling noises deep within the earth.
This free half day workshop led by artist and composer Kate Carr gives the opportunity for you to learn the basics of field recording, using a range of specialist microphones to discover and capture sounds within the environment. The workshop includes a walk around Thamesmead and its many diverse urban and natural features, and the use of recording equipment. Participants also receive contact microphones to keep and reuse, and can retain thee sounds sourced on the day.
This event has limited places, booking essential. Please come prepared for walking and changeable weather. Tea and Coffee provided, however please bring something to eat.
