Join artists Andrea Francke and Matthew de Kersaint Giraudeau for a live recording of episode 7 of their podcast, Ten Texts on Painting: The Problem of Genius, as they try to make theory together and in public.

Who decides which artists get to be geniuses? What happens to the way their work is written about? Is there something about painting as an artform that lends itself to the idea of the painter as genius?

In this live talk Andrea and Matthew look at the work of Anselm Kiefer and Gerhardt Richter, two artists who have achieved both critical and commercial success and are considered by many to be geniuses.

Andrea and Matthew will read a profile of Anselm Kiefer by the Norwegian author Karl Ove Knausgård, and a review of Benjamin Buchloh’s book on Gerhardt Richter by the theorist and art historian Malcolm Bull.

This talk will be recorded live  for episode 7 of Ten Texts on Painting, will be distributed as podcast, and broadcast on rtm.fm
