COMMUNITY ECOSYSTEMS
A READING GROUP AND MEAL
MOHAMMAD NAMAZI
Community Ecosystems is a commuity research project led and organised by aritst Mohammad Namazi. The project aims to initiate a series of conversations exploring the intersections of urban regeneration, community resilience, and the role of artists in shaping future cities.
Taking the form of a reading group and shared meal, this session will offer a space to gather, learn, and reflect on key ideas surrounding collective action, housing and regeneration.
The event is open to anyone interested in cultural work, local activism, and rethinking the cities we inhabit, whether you’re an artist, community member, activist, or simply curious.
For the first gathering, the group will be reading and discussing short sections of three texts that set the stage for further conversation (downloadable below:)
(Dis)ordering the City: Buildings, Bodies and Urban (Emily Speed and Duncan Light, 2019)
On Social Justice by Care and Commons (Silvia Federici, 2020)
The Discourse of the City (Kathleen Flanagan, 2019)
These texts cover themes of value, capital, community, collaborative work, and new possibilities for city life, grounding us in a deeper understanding of Thamesmead’s complex social fabric and the broader context of urban regeneration.
The event is organised in two parts. It will begin with the reading group discussion, where the group dive into each text and explore how these ideas can shape our understanding of Thamesmead’s evolving landscape.
Afterwards, the group will gather for a communal meal, serving vegetarian food to continue the conversation in a more informal setting.
The session is free. However, space is limited, and therefore, it is important to RSVP.
Please email info@taco.org.uk to reserve your place
Please note this event will be documented by taking a few photographs, capturing audio recordings of the readings, conversations, and exchanges among participants, and recording occasional video snippets for documentation purposes.
This event has been supported by research funding from the Arts Council England and Royal Holloway, University of London

Community Ecosystems forms part of Estates - an ongoing collaborative research project with artists, communities and groups that considers TACO!’s wider context of urban regeneration, the surrounding estates of Thamesmead and Abbeywood, and how we might collectively re-imagine community and civic space.
