FLOOR BOOK
A LAUNCH AND A SONG
10 SEPT
19:00 - 23:00
TACO! invites you to the launch of its collective, self-published publication Floor Book. Taking inspiration from the Hot Snakes Night Club, we’ll be celebrating with performances from: Alan Fielden and collaborators, who will share a new polyphonic performance; Flo Ray, who will read a eulogy for sloppy topographies (on shedding, spillage, and autonomous hair); then seeing out the evening with an open, freeform karaoke session hosted by the Empty Void Orchestra, fuelled by the TACO! artist cocktail bar.
Floor Book is a new publication by TACO! A generous abdication of the curatorial, it is a speculative experiment in publishing for the sake of not knowing and finding out. Conceived as a collection of things gathered up from the cutting room floor, it includes poetry, song, mark-making, photography, conversation and essay. These contributions reflect eighteen months of work with artists invited by TACO! to explore play, community, performance and space.
Contributors: Alternative School of Economics, Bang! Splat! Whoosh!, Ben Kulvichit, Henry Broome, Chloe Cooper, Matthew de Kersaint Giraudeau, Jemma Egan, Gusty Ferro, Alan Fielden, Holly Graham, Hugo Hagger, The Hundred Club, Mat Jenner, Frey Kwa Hawking, Chloe Langlois, Amy Leung, Nat Norland, Lucy Parker, Sophie Paul, Jenny Pengilly, Clara Potter-Sweet, Gina Prat Lilly, Flo Ray, Adam Shield, Nick Smith, Evelyn Wh-ell, Jemima Yong.
The publication is for sale for £18 and is available from the TACO! bookshop.
Flo Ray is an artist and writer living in London. Central to her work is a preoccupation with expressions of multiplicity: fragmentations in thought and feeling that complicate the dominant cultural narrative of a singular, cohering self. Her writing has featured in anthologies by Prototype, Carrion Press, Present Tense, Blackbox Manifold and Fieldnotes, among others.
Alan Fielden is a Korean-British writer, performance maker, and poet. Winner of the Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award for Marathon, with JAMS, co-produced by the Barbican. His writing has been published by Prototype, If A Leaf Falls, Monitor Books, Minor Literatures, and Broken Sleep Press. He is Associate Lecturer at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, UAL, and Worcester University, and co-runs event series 'Feature' at Cafe Oto.
Empty Void Orchestra is an experimental karaoke platform conceived by artists Maggie Campbell, Katrina Cobain, Yoojin Lee and Moira Salt. Audiences are invited take part in shared listening and karaoke performance and use experimental 3D printed instruments designed by Chloe Langlois as part of the Hot Snakes Night Club.
